The Paul Chen Kami Folded Katana is considered to be the apex of the Paul Chen Collection of Katanas, as well as one of the finest available anywhere today. The Kami, or guardian warriors, are the focus of this amazing Sword. They are depicted on the solid copper tsuba and again on the traditional hand engraved "Fudo" horimono directly on the blade. The saya(scabbard) is deeply lacquered red with a with a black ring-carved section at the sageo (scabbard tie). The tsuka(handle) is covered in Same (rayskin) and then wrapped in the best quality Japanese silk. The Fuchi (blade collar), kashira (pommel), kojiri (scabbard tip), koiguchi (scabbard mouth), and kurigata (knob) are all made of blackened bronze, with a crane decoration on the koiguchi, and a dragon on the kojiri done with selective detailing of copper, silver and gold. The habaki (blade collar) is of two piece construction, the inner section being copper and the outer section gold plated brass. The blade of the Paul Chen Kami Folded Katana is hand made of Folded (creating around 1,000 layers) ASSAB K-120C Swedish Steel. The steel forging on this blade provides an excellent dispersion of carbides, resulting in a very tough steel with outstanding edge-holding properties. A very traditional Edo period Katana that Date Masamune would be proud of!
